Stephanie Schwiederek : A Hundred Thousand Tender Hours
October 20 – December 14, 2026
Reception: Friday November 20, 5:00-8:00pm with artist talk from 5:30-6:30
A Hundred Thousand Tender Hours presents photographs from Stephanie Schwiederek that trace the ongoing documentation of her mother, Anna. For years, Schwiederek referred to her mother as her muse, but that description only tells part of the story. What began as a record of her mother and her space gradually became a deeper confrontation with the complex relationship between mother and child. Photographing her mother became part of their shared life; a way to observe the tenderness, the repetition, and the quiet weight of home. Over time, the work expanded into something more reflective: a window into memory, a mirror of becoming, and a meditation on mortality.
Stephanie Schwiederek is an American multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans photography, the moving image, writing, poetry, and bookmaking. Through themes of belonging, identity, memory, trauma, the archive, and family dynamics, Schwiederek explores the intersections of violence and intimacy, dysfunction and acceptance, and resignation and resilience.
